The consolidation project continues. I am still working on the consolidation of the following services: IM, email, synchronisation. The main problems remain moving buddies in the IM accounts, making sure that the satellite email accounts are properly forwarded or deleted (and knowing which are which), and deciding just how much of the Google pantheon to rely upon.
The source of my troubles revolves around MobileMe not being able to run Wordpress. Given my need to sync 3 computers and my iPhone, getting rid of MobileMe doesn't look like an option. MobileMe allows for exceptionally well integrated sharing and backing up of information between the various machines I use.
On the other hand, having my own hosted site allows me to run Wordpress. I simply cannot imagine moving to a blogging system over which I do not have as much control as I enjoy with Wordpress. The added ability to post to this blog from an iPhone app is very nice. The problem is that it costs around $120/yr to host the site. I've paid for the year upcoming, so spookyhill.net will remain here for time being. The Google services available are quite attractive, but in the end, I do not think that it is possible to replace all of MobileMe's synchronisation services.
My instant messaging services are sort of another matter. I have always had the problem that I would prefer to use just one IM service (iChat/AIM). However, there are lots of other IM services which people to whom I would like to be available. So, I like to use Adium. However, with a name change on the horizon, my old IM account names will become 'inappropriate.' Over the next few weeks, I am going to be moving from the old Windows Live and iChat/AIM accounts to new ones. You can find those accounts names here. If you are currently on my friends list in Windows Live or iChat/AOL, expect a friend request soon.
Finally, I have been able, more or less, to set things up such that my Facebook account contains all of the various entries and notations that I make elsewhere: entries from this blog, my Google Reader Shared Items, my Diggs, my tweets, my delicious bookmarks, and photos I post to my Picasa.
Now that all of that is more or less sorted out... it's time to make some posts here.
