Most entertaining argument I've read about GRS in AB

I have read many, many arguments for and against the recent gender reassignment surgery de-listing by the Alberta government. I ran across this today and had a nice smile:

I've heard arguments that sex reassignment is just cosmetic surgery for weirdos.

But if we live in a world where we'll take a physician's word when they tell us we have heart disease, a gimpy knee, or clinical depression, why do the doctors become morons when it comes to sex changes?

People in the midst of gender reassignment are folks with remarkably complex lives and complex problems and if we don't have an understanding of it, then that's our blessing -- not their fault.

And a lousy $700,000 a year is a small price to pay to alleviate their suffering (via Calgary Sun).

It turns out to be about 19¢ per Albertan. I cannot even begin to understand how anyone can see any force in an economic argument against the continuation of funding.
