New House, New Duties

Well, I have been incredibly slack in posting here. This has mainly been due to searching for, buying, and now wrestling with a new house. Just about everyone I have ever talked to about buying a new home has said something like 'well, not everything about the house you'll like at first; you have to customise!' This is understatement for me. I prefer things to be done in standard ways (2 decades of military training at work there) and the people who worked on this house through its near century of existence really need to be taken out and schooled with respect to neatness, completeness, and order. I offer only one example: I have found no fewer than three wall switches that appear to do nothing. The realtor doesn't know what they do. The pervious owner doesn't know what they do (this was a rental property for years). My first thought was 'I wonder if they are live'. This never seemed to cross the previous owner's mind. Sure enough: live switches. Where do the wires go? I guess I am going to have to put my ancient drywall skills to the test when I tear the walls apart in frustration trying to see what these switches do! Nevertheless, I am going to be doing my best to post more regularly; there is no lack of topics on which I have desired to rant. Perhaps I simply need to take some quality time for me.
